Week 16 - Scotland Big Year

Week 16

 16 – 22 April 2025

During my big year, I will update my blog most weeks. This is the sixteenth week's recap. The number next to the day indicates my year list at the end of that day. Birds written in italics indicate year ticks.

April 18 - Day 108: 144

Today, despite it being a Friday, the Easter long weekend means that we are looking towards a four-day weekend. We decided to head to Portsoy in search of the many White-billed Divers that moult in that area. Before, however, I had a quick walk in Victoria Park, where I got a long-awaited year tick: the Blackcap. When we arrived at Portsoy, I started scanning for any sign of the divers. I noticed many breeding plumaged Long-tailed Ducks, as well as Guillemots, Razorbills, Gannets, a flock of Whooper Swans, a pair of Red-throated Divers, but no White-billed Divers. We walked around the harbour, seeing many Rock Pipits, a flock of Turnstones, and some more Razorbills and Guillemots. Eventually we went for lunch, and after a final scan, we gave up and headed home.
