Birding in French Polynesia - Day 4

Birding in French Polynesia IV

4 January 2026

Over the next 28 days, I will be spending my time birding on Tahiti and Mo'orea, two islands in the Windward Islands, an archipelago belonging to French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France. Birds in italics indicate lifers.

Sunday Jan 4 2026 - Day 4

Today, we went to the 8am mass at the Pape'ete Cathedral, hearing some Tahitian singing from the choir. We then went to check the time ferry timetables to Mo'orea, since we are going there tomorrow.

This afternoon, we were having a swim in the pool at our accommodation when I saw a White-tailed Tropicbird fly over some buildings. We also saw another Blue Moon Butterfly, and many Red-vented Bulbuls. We also watched as a Mannikin came back and forth from with nesting material to a nest.
