Birding in French Polynesia XXVI
26 January 2026
Over the next 28 days, I will be spending my time birding on Tahiti and Mo'orea, two islands in the Windward Islands, an archipelago belonging to French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France. Birds in italics indicate lifers.
Monday Jan 26 2026 - Day 26
Today, when walking back from Punaauia, we had a lovely encounter with a few nice birds and a butterfly. Firstly, on the way there, we saw several Brown Noddies, resting on the beach, of which I took great photos.
We also met a friendly Wandering Tattler, which followed us along the beach.
Then, jut before the rain started pouring down, we saw our second butterfly species of the trip - The Purple-line Blue. Also known as the Mauve lineblue or the Tailless lineblue, this is a species of butterfly common in Southeast Asia, Australasia, and certain Pacific islands.
