Birding in French Polynesia - Day 11

Birding in French Polynesia XI

11 January 2026

Over the next 28 days, I will be spending my time birding on Tahiti and Mo'orea, two islands in the Windward Islands, an archipelago belonging to French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France. Birds in italics indicate lifers.

Sunday Jan 11 2026 - Day 11

Today, we walked north along the beach, to do the groceries. On the way, we saw several Brown Noddies, a few Wandering Tattlers, and some Chestnut-breasted Mannikins, which were, to our surprise, feeding in amongst the seaweed.

While passing some fishermen throwing out their fish, we saw a few Blacktip Reef-sharks, quite close to the shore, we also saw some less-menacing Great Crested Terns, hoping for an easy meal.

On the way back, we saw a dark morph Pacific Reef-Heron with a some kind of flounder.
