Birding in French Polynesia - Day 14

Birding in French Polynesia XIV

14 January 2026

Over the next 28 days, I will be spending my time birding on Tahiti and Mo'orea, two islands in the Windward Islands, an archipelago belonging to French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France. Birds in italics indicate lifers.

Wednesday Jan 14 2026 - Day 14

Today, we didn't do much birding, but we did walk up to the Museum of Tahiti and Her Islands, north of us. We saw a few Brown Noddies on the way, and other common species. When we arrived, we were happy to see some Red-browed Firetails, in amongst the Chestnut-breasted Mannikins, and Waxbills. We explored the limited time photo gallery exhibition, and the actual museum. We learnt a lot about the history of Tahiti and the other islands in French Polynesia. In the museum, we also found a display case with the islands' endemic birds, including Grey-Green Fruit Dove, Tahiti Petrel, and Tahiti Monarch

On our way back home, we saw some Wandering Tattlers on the beach, and some White Terns.
